Recreation

Hiking, running, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, swimming, white water rafting... we could go on and on. It's all fun and it's all (in season) here for the taking. Get your blood pumping and take in the magnificence of the outdoors at the same time. You can bring your iPod; leave the treadmill in the gym!

Heritage

Founded in 1863, New England's largest public university, UMass was originally named Massachusetts Agricultural College. The Black Walnut Inn enjoys the bounty offered by the fertile farmlands of the Connecticut River Valley. Local maple sugar, super sweet summer corn, red ripe tomatoes and spicy peppers regularly make their way to our breakfast table as familiar and welcome additions.

Industrial Roots

The Inn's front Federal-style structure was built during the 19th century's industrial period. As you travel through Western Massachusetts, you'll find delightful restaurants, book stores, performing arts centers and art boutiques housed in reclaimed and revitalized mills and factories. Take the time to stop in, look around and experience the architectural history of the region.
